01 HERE Local 2 - Hotel Workers Fight for Their Union
9/14/04 - San Francisco hotel workers at 14 of the city's fanciest hotels take a vote to strike, 3139 in favor, 88 against. Hotel workers in Los Angeles and Washington DC also took strike votes the day prior, making a huge, 3-city strike very likely. Hotel Employees Union Local 2 President Mike Casey explains that Local 2 wants its contract to expire in 2006, the same year contracts expire in other large cities, so that the union will be able to negotiate at the same time with the giant corporations who run the hotels, and increase its bargaining power.
