11 Girley Pilones & Judith Sanchez San Jose de Campostela, Mindanao Girley PIlones, 11 years old, and Judith Sanchez, 17 years old, flatten out plastic sheets used in growing bananas. They work before school and afterwards, and a full day on Saturday, for about 50 pesos (a little over $1.00US) per day. Children work on this plantation because the wages their families receive as farmworkers are too low to support them. The wages are low because Dole Corporation pays an extremely low price for the plantation's bananas. |
