01 Benedicto Hijara San Jose de Campostela, Mindanao Benedicto Hijara is 15 years old. He stopped going to school four years ago, after finishing 6th grade. He climbs a ladder beside the banana tree, preparing to tie it to an overhead cable, to keep it from falling over from the weight of the fruit, in the fields of the Soyapa Farms banana plantation. He earns 71.50 pesos (a little less than $2.00US) per day for propping up 105 trees. |
