22 May Day March 08 - Oakland On May Day immigrants and their supporters marched through the streets of Oakland. Marchers protested a growing wave of raids and deportations, and efforts by the Federal government to force employers to fire workers for lack of immigration visas. They called for amnesty -- permanent residence visas which would give the undocumented immediate legal status and rights -- and equality -- opposing second-class status as temporary workers.
