16 Han Young Strikers Tijuana, 6/23/2000 Strikers from the Han Young factory and members of the independent October 6 union, moments after they and their and supporters were beaten and expelled from a meeting organized by the Mexican government to discuss their right to form independent unions. The banner on the left reads "No more protection contracts" and refers to the sweetheart agreements made between government-affiliated unions and employers, a big reason why workers want to organize independent unions. The banner in the middle says "For the right to decide what union we want", and on the right "No more corruption of the labor board." |
