Edward Morrison was working on the kill floor at the Smithfield pork plant in Tarheel, North Carolina, manually pushing hogs down the line when he heard a pop in his left knee. He was diagnosed with a torn meniscus. Morrison went to the company clinic and was denied Workman’s Compensation. He was out of work for 30 days while recovering from surgery, and then was terminated because of his absence.
