26 HERE Local 2 - Hotel Workers Fight for Their Union
Local 2 President Mike Casey turns away in disgust after hearing the Fairmount Hotel manager tell workers that they won't be permitted to return to their jobs. Ten San Francisco Class A hotels locked out their workers when the union struck four other hotels for two weeks on September 28 over employer demands for increased health care payments, inadequate raises, and for an expiration date for their contract in 2006, which would allow the union to negotiate simultaneously in major US cities. . When workers tried to return to work on October 13, at the end of the two-week strike, hotel managers extended the lockout indefinitely in all hotels.
