Oil for Freedom
Part 5

88 Iraqi Unionists
Hassan Juma’a Awad, the head of the General Union of Oil Employees. It is the largest and most powerful union in Iraq. The oil workers union was originally organized under illegal conditions when the British made Iraq a colony in the 1920s. After becoming a legal and powerful organization in 1958, it was effectively banned by Saddam Hussein's Law 150 in 1987. After the fall of the Saddam Hussein regime, the union was reorganized.
