Day of the Dead

On the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), Oaxacans build altars to the dead, and dress as skeletons in costumes. An artist makes an altar with a plumed serpent in a hotel courtyard. A large percentage of the residents of Oaxaca have left to work in the United States, where the same celebrations take place in Mexican barrios.
