Cananea Copper Mine

02 Cananea

In the Cananea copper mine, the largest in Mexico, many unsafe conditions endanger the health and safety of miners. The union at the mine, owned by Grupo Mexico, is on strike to demand that the conditions be improved. In the huge concentrator complex, rock containing copper ore is crushed into fine powder. Because the dust collecting apparatus has been disabled, miners breathe the dust and suffer industrial illnesses as a result.
