11 SEIU Local 399 hunger strike
Members of the Los Angeles janitors union, Service Employees Local 399, at a union meeting after an insurgent slate had won election to union leadership, but were denied their right to take office by the local's former officers. The insurgents organized a hunger strike and wore headbands in protest.
