39 May Day 2007- Washington, DC
Macrina Cardenas, legislative coordinator of the Mexico Solidarity Network, fasts for a week before May Day, with supporters, to protest the wave of immigration raids across the country. The group calls for stopping the deportations, and protested anti-immigrant bills in Congress and local anti-immigrant initiatives. They called for amnesty -- permanent residence visas which would give the undocumented immediate legal status and rights -- and equality -- opposing second-class status as temporary workers.
