34 Oaxaca
On the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), Oaxacans build altars to the dead, and dress as skeletons in costumes. At night people gather and drink chocolate while candles light the walls in the Oaxaca city cemetery. A large percentage of the residents of Oaxaca have left to work in the United States, where the same celebrations take place in Mexican barrios.
