Day of the Dead

09 Oaxaca

On the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), Oaxacans build altars to the dead, and dress as skeletons in costumes. A large percentage of the residents of Oaxaca have left to work in the United States, where the same celebrations take place in Mexican barrios. A vendor sells balloons in the zocalo, or plaza.
