Maria Martinez and Carmen Leon at the gate into their yard, in La Cienega. Up until the 1930s La Cienega was a center of gold mining, and had sometimes thousands of working claims. Today only a handful of inhabitants remain -- mostly the very old and very young. The rest have gone to Caborca, or to the US.
