Every Worker an Organizer

36 Jose and Ingracia Castillo
Coachella Valley
Jose and Ingracia Castillo were strikers in the great 1973 grape strike. After being blacklisted, they got a job with the only union grape grower, David Freedman Co. Just days after NAFTA's passage, Freedman decided it couldn't compete with grapes grown in Mexico, and went out of business. After 22 years at the company, the Castillos lost their jobs.
