18 Artisans of Oaxaca
A dragon carved by Florencio Fuentes Melchor, an artist who makes carved and painted wooden figures, alebrijes, in a workshop in the central valley of Oaxaca. A large percentage of the residents of San Martin Tilcajete have left to work in the United States, but the alebrije workshops are one of the main sources of income for those who stay. Fuentes tried to continue his craft in the Oaxacan immigrant community in Santa Cruz, California.
